24th February 2024, Saturday, a total of 25 students from Tun Tan Cheng Lock College of Nursing accompanied with one Tutor Advisor, Ms Nages went to Pusat Jagaan Kanak-kanak kurang upaya Kirtash by two vans. Pusat Jagaan Kanak-kanak kurang upaya Kirtash is a non-profit organization where there are a total of 25 occupants which are less fortunate, abandoned by the family members and handicapped people stay in this place. The place is run by one owner together with 3 other staff to help him in taking care of the occupants in the organization. As this place is far away from the city, it is not known by many people which means they received less donations and this is the main reason for the student nurses of batch 94/July 2022 decide to contribute something to this organization through this community project.
With the slogan “We care, we share” for the community project, the nursing students conduct some activities and raise funds to get money to be donated to this organization. On the visiting day, the student nurses with the tutor advisor departed from the college early in the morning. Upon arrival, an opening speech was given by the owner of Pusat Jagaan Kanak-kanak kurang upaya Kirtash, Mr.Manivannan followed by the Project Director, Student Nurse Muhammed Irfan Bin Mazlan. During the speech given by the organization’s owner, he expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the student nurses as they chose this place to give donations as they received lack of help from other NGO’s etc.
The student nurses started to carry out some fun activities to bond with a total of 37 occupants in the organisation. The occupants seemed very delightful and enjoyed the activities with the presence of the student nurses. First of all, they have a senamrobik session, get to know sessions where they mix up and communicate with the occupants and have colouring and thumb painting with a variety of watercolour choices on one big manila card. Everyone gives the best to bring joy throughout the activities which are unforgettable moments and experiences for both the student nurses and the occupants.
After the activities, the student nurses distribute goodies bags to each occupant, followed by hand over the donation to Mr. Manivannan, the owner of the organization and having photography session with all the occupants in Pusat Jagaan Kanak-kanak kurang upaya Kirtash. The owner also prepared appreciation certificates for all the student nurses that were involved in the community project. The student nurses also prepared food for lunch time and they had lunch together with the occupants after the activities.
The student nurses work together to clean the place, arrange back the table and chair, throw the rubbish and wash the used plate before leaving it to ensure the place is clean and tidy. The student nurses feel very satisfied and happy at the same time as they can put a smile on each and occupant’s face throughout the visiting day which they had achieved the mission of creating an impact and unforgettable moments for both parties.
